Apple WWDC 2024 LIVE updates: All the expected announcements including iOS 18, AI features and more
Nothing official has been said yet about Apple's agreement with OpenAI to incorporate the Microsoft-owned company's ChatGPT into its well-known iOS voice-based personal assistant Siri, but here's what we know going into WWDC 2024 today. Apple's vice president of corporate development, Adrian Perica, has been quietly leading the charge to integrate the two, according to anonymous sources who spoke to the New York Times -- with the hope that the end result will be a Siri that's more conversational and versatile. Unlike its rivals however, Apple's core brand has been built on being intuitive and easy to use for the average person, so the company is the least likely to take any big risks with its AI offering. 'Apple is pretty conservative when it comes to everything, so I don't know that they will "wow" people,' Carolina Milanesi, president of Creative Strategies, a tech research firm, told the Times. 'But they have to do this because it will be how we interact with technology going forward,' she said.

Apple WWDC 2024: What to Expect for Software and Hardware
However, over the last few years, the software news out of WWDC has been upstaged by hardware announcements. Rather than focusing on apps at recent WWDCs, Apple has used the gathering as an opportunity to unveil its M-series Apple Silicon chips, next-generation Macs, and most recently, the Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset. But this year, Apple pushed its hardware announcements out ahead of WWDC. In April, the company launched the M3-powered MacBook Air (13-inch and 15-inch). In May, it released an all-new M4 chip, along with the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Apple WWDC 2024: What we expect including iOS 18 updates, AI and more
It'll soon be Apple's turn to talk about its next major operating system updates, giving developers a chance to get their apps ready ahead of a broad rollout this fall. The company's Worldwide Developers Conference is right around the corner. Apple is sure to reveal some of the main features of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, as well as what's ahead for the likes of watchOS, macOS and visionOS at WWDC 2024. Given the current tech climate, though, it seems likely that Apple is about to follow its rivals by making a big leap into the realm of generative AI. That could be a major focus of the keynote, since those are the only two letters investors seem to give a hoot about hearing these days. The Apple rumor mill never stops churning, so we've heard some bits and pieces about what WWDC will perhaps entail.
